A nine-month-old baby (pictured) attacked by a stranger in a Brisbane park has taken his first steps since the horrific incident.

The mother of a baby who had scalding coffee poured over him by a stranger has shared footage of the nine-month-old taking his first steps as new details emerge about the attacker’s unusual movements.

Little Luka was on a picnic with his mother and friends at Hanlon Park in Brisbane’s Coorparoo when an unknown man approached the group at around midday on Tuesday.

He served Luka a thermos of coffee before fleeing the scene and heading to a nearby church to change his clothes.

The nine-month-old boy was rushed to Queensland Children’s Hospital where he continues to recover following emergency surgery.

His mother shared a video of Luka walking and laughing for the first time since the attack on Thursday.

Luka had taken his first steps just hours before suffering severe burns, so his parents were relieved to see that his injuries were not stopping him.

“He seems happy again, which is nice to see because the last few days have been very, very difficult,” his mother said. 7News.

“He’s doing well. He’s really playing.”

The GoFundMe page, set up by a family friend who was at the picnic that was attacked, described the man’s actions as “callous” and “random.”

“(The baby) is currently in the hospital and is expected to remain there for a while, while receiving treatment for severe burns,” she wrote.

‘He has a long recovery ahead of him that will include more visits to the doctor, specialists and the hospital.

‘(I) would love to raise some money to cover medical or household expenses to help ease the pressure on my friend and her family while they take time to be home and help their beautiful boy heal.’
