A convicted murderer who brutally murdered a teenager was stabbed to death while serving a long sentence in a maximum security prison.
Emergency services were called to Lithgow Correctional Center in the New South Wales Central Tablelands, west of Sydney, about 2.45pm on Wednesday after Aymen Terkmani, 31, was allegedly attacked and stabbed by two inmates with a sharp weapon.
Terkmani suffered serious stab wounds to the chest,
He was treated by paramedics and flown to hospital, but died en route.
The jail was locked down when the crime scene was established.
“Detectives from Chifley Police District, with the assistance of the Homicide Squad and Correctional Services, have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident,” a police statement read.
A report will be prepared for the coroner.

It is understood that a number of alleged suspects have been identified on CCTV and are now being held in segregation.
NSW Correctional Services and NSW Police have launched an investigation into Terkmani’s death.

Terkmani He was sentenced to 33 years behind bars in November 2017 for the murder and sexual assault of 16-year-old Mahmoud Hrouk two years earlier.
Mahmoud was lured to an abandoned house in Fairfield East, in Sydney’s southwest, where he was sexually assaulted and beaten to death.
Her bloodied and half-naked body was found inside the house the next day.
Sentencing, NSW Supreme Court Justice Lucy McCallum said the 21-year-old had subjected Mahmoud to “unspeakable violence”.
“The offender subjected the victim to the most brutal and horrific attack, inflicting injuries too numerous to list and too gruesome to describe,” he said.
