Conspiracies abound in university protests

Lea Feiger: Yes, no, it’s not good there.

David Gilbert: There’s a lot of content there that they could have worked with. But no, they have blamed the liberals, the blame has woken up, the blame is on the communists. And my favorite conspiracy was from a guy who just commented: “Defund white women.”

Lea Feiger: Oh my god, that’s amazing. I blame all that too. Amazing. Well, that was a really good one. Makena, hit me with yours.

Makena Kelly: Oh my God. Well, I haven’t been as glued to the conspiracies this week because I’ve been paying a lot of attention to the Kendrick Lamar and Drake meat.

Lea Feiger: Oh, of course. Good. Yeah.

Makena Kelly: And I’m incredibly involved. It’s been crazy to wake up and have a new distortion track that’s absolutely crazy the last few days.

Lea Feiger: Amazing.

Makena Kelly: And what I think I can say I’ve been paying attention to is that this issue is some kind of globalist plot to distract people.

Lea Feiger: Arrest.

Makena Kelly: To distract people from all the, of course, terrible and horrible things happening around the world.

Lea Feiger: Where does this conspiracy come from?

Makena Kelly: Almost everywhere. I’m seeing it on Twitter, I’m seeing it on TikTok. I’m seeing it in many places. And I think, honestly, if I were to say that there was really a conspiracy going on out of this, it was a conspiracy to bring Macklemore back because now he’s back with a song, which is something he didn’t expect at all.

Lea Feiger: Incredible. Well. Another very good one.

Victoria Elliot: It’s meat and circus.

Lea Feiger: I know. Okay, Tori, hit us with what you’ve got.

Victoria Elliot: So what I like most is that one of the joys of the TikTok algorithm is that it’s not chronological, so it will just give you things when you feel like you’re ready for them. And so this is not-

Lea Feiger: Also as a statement.

Victoria Elliot: This one is actually from the fall, but TikTok decided now was my time. So now is everyone’s time. In the fall, there was a woman who went viral and she created a lot of follow points because she was like, “Well, if dinosaurs were real, wouldn’t there be bones everywhere?”

Lea Feiger: Oh Lord.

Victoria Elliot: And my favorite conspiracy this week on TikTok, because now is my moment in the sun, is that dinosaurs weren’t real because their bones aren’t everywhere.

Lea Feiger: Oh, that’s a good one. Are you getting too involved in this?

Victoria Elliot: She got a lot of engagement. Well, she came to me through a tip from, I think, a creator she had recently followed. So it was like, here’s the viral thing about it. Good?
