UFC legend Nate Diaz revealed to social media influencer Sneako how he came up with the idea to slap Conor McGregor during their historic pair of fights in 2016.

Diaz and McGregor memorably clashed inside the Octagon twice in the space of five months, with both men claiming one victory each. Diaz shocked the world in his first fight by submitting McGregor in the second round, but the Irishman got his revenge in their rematch when he won on points after a back-and-forth battle.

The two fights are remembered for Diaz coming forward strongly after starting slowly, delivering his infamous ‘Stockton slap’ to McGregor as he gained confidence.

During a recent training session with Sneako, Diaz explained why he chose to use the brutal blow against his bitter rival.

“One time, I was training and I threw a hook, and I think it was (for) Conor, and I went like this (throws a main hook), and he was like (swings back) right out of the way,” Diaz demonstrated.

He explained that he chose to do so because he realized that he was out of reach if he attempted a punch.

‘Then I opened my hand and I still have it! Like, “I got you, bitch!”

Sneako seemed impressed by the tactic and asked, “Was it just to get into range?” to which Diaz responded ‘Yes!’

Diaz has become known for slapping his opponents in fights since the clashes with McGregor, and has also faced the likes of Jorge Masvidal, Leon Edwards and Tony Ferguson in recent years.

But he walked away from the UFC in 2022 after beating Ferguson and has since dedicated himself to boxing, where slapping is not possible due to the use of larger gloves.

He fought YouTube sensation Jake Paul last August and was eliminated en route to losing a points decision.

His next step in his career is still unclear, but rumors of a trilogy fight with McGregor have refused to go away, suggesting he might get the chance to try and slap the UFC star one more time before May your days of fighting finally end.
