The injury that forced Conor McGregor to withdraw from his fight against Michael Chandler at UFC 303 was so serious that the Irishman considered ending his career.
It was announced yesterday that McGregor was officially ruled out of a planned return to the Octagon later this month.
Sources told DailyMail.com that the injuries were so serious that they “made him contemplate retirement.”
“But ultimately,” the source says, “having to retire has lit a spectacular fire under his butt and he is more determined than ever to fight again this year and reschedule his fight with Chandler this fall.”
“Conor has been hurt more than he would like to reveal, but his ego made him think he could pull through and fight later this month.

McGregor pulled out of the fight just weeks after he was spotted partying in Dublin.

It wasn’t just McGregor who was debating calling it a career. Many of his fans wondered if the Dublin native would ever fight again after another setback prevented a possible return.
“Conor has a handful of big-money fights left,” says a source.
“So, to protect his future in the financial department, it was best for him to cancel the fight, so when he comes back, it will be a big deal and he believes there will be a tremendous push to see him once.” again when he returns to the octagon.”
News of McGregor’s injury was revealed by UFC boss Dana White on Instagram on Thursday night, as he posted a video to reveal the new schedule for this month’s UFC 303 card in Las Vegas.
Alex Pereira and Jiri Prochazka will now headline the event, facing off on Saturday, June 29, and the news will come as a blow to the legions of McGregor fans who had planned a trip to Sin City in two weeks’ time.

McGregor has not fought since UFC 264 on July 10, 2021 in a fight he lost to Dustin Poirier due to a medical stoppage.
