The South African actress died on Tuesday at Garden City Hospital in Johannesburg, according to a family statement posted on the star’s Instagram on Wednesday.

It began: ‘The Chiume family regrets to inform you of the passing of internationally acclaimed and award-winning actress, Connie Chiume.

Nongelo said, however, that the family “will be in constant communication with any updates they need to share with the general public.”

Connie’s son was also asked on the broadcast how he would like his mother to be remembered.

Nongelo responded: “We want her to be remembered as a person who gave everything through her talents. We want her to be remembered as someone who was selfless and who always wanted to see the next person doing great things and believing in the talents God gave her.”

In addition, the South African government posted a tribute to Connie on X (formally Twitter).

They wrote: ‘Our sincere condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of the legendary multi-award winning actress Connie Chiume. Her excellent work will always be remembered #RIPConnieChiume.’
