The desperate search for a teenager missing for 17 days has intensified and a criminal investigation unit has been called in.

Isla Bell, 19, was last seen leaving her home in Brunswick, in Melbourne’s inner north, about 6pm on October 4.

Friends and family have since shared photos of the young woman online and urged anyone who sees her to contact police, especially if she is accompanied by an “older man.”

Bell’s mother, Justine Spokes, shared her concerns online. “My girl is missing and we miss her so much,” he wrote on Facebook.

‘She leaves an impression, it is difficult to forget. He has a fighting spirit, sometimes strong and sometimes soft, always lasting.

‘We’re here for you, friend. I love you my care bear.’

Spokes later revealed that the family had been planning to visit the Great Barrier Reef for Bell’s 20th birthday and were alarmed when they could not locate her.

Victoria Police are investigating Ms Bell’s disappearance and described her as having a “thin build, red hair, pale complexion and pierced nose, lips and eyebrows”.

“Police and family are concerned for her well-being due to the length of time she has been missing,” he said in a statement.
