Complete Report Addressed to Richard Sharp, Chairman of BBC

Date:

Richard Sharp has resigned as BBC chairman after a report revealed he failed to disclose a potential conflict of interest in playing a role in obtaining an £800,000 loan guarantee for Boris Johnson.

The former Tory donor said on Friday morning he will step down at the end of June after attorney Adam Heppinstall KC’s review of his appointment found he broke the rules.

Mr Heppinstall concluded that he had “failed to disclose potential alleged conflicts of interest” to the panel interviewing candidates and advising ministers on his appointment.

The report was ordered after it emerged that he had introduced his friend Sam Blyth, a cousin of Mr Johnson’s who wanted to help him with his financial problems, to the Cabinet Office before being recommended by the government for the position.
