Owners of the social media platform TikTok have confirmed their intention to enter the smartphone business.
Chinese social media company ByteDance, owner of short-lived video platform TikTok, the western version of Douyin, confirmed the switch to Caijing financial news, adding that the telephone has been in development for seven months.
The phone is being developed in collaboration with the Smartisan Technology company and is said to be pre-loaded with the many apps from ByteDance.
Among them may be Tik Tok, the Toutiao news aggregation app from ByteDance, and an unreleased music streaming service that will attempt to compete with players such as Spotify and Apple Music.

ByteDance also launched Duoshan in January, a video chat app that closely reflects Snapchat.
& # 39; The product was a continuation of previous Smartisan plans, aimed at meeting the needs of the old Smartisan user base & # 39 ;, a Smartisan spokesperson told Reuters.
According to an earlier report from Bloomberg, the unnamed music streaming service, which is not expected to be named after TikTok, will first be launched in emerging markets such as India.
ByteDance signed a deal with Smartisan earlier this year for certain patents that would help the company & # 39; explore the world of education & # 39; – a step that the company can also strategically position in a possible extension to telephones.
New reports do not provide information about when the phone can be revealed or what it would look like.
TikTok, also known as Douyin in China, has become one of the fastest growing apps among teen users in recent years and now has more than 500 million downloads.
The app has also had a major impact on cultural trends. & # 39; Old Town Road & # 39 ;, currently the number one number in the world, got steam on TikTok, for example.
With its streaming service, ByteDance will attempt to capitalize on the rapid popularity of TikTok by turning some of its users into paying customers, according to an earlier Bloomberg report earlier this month.

Offering the app as a paid service is probably more attractive for labels because they get a higher percentage of royalties compared to free services.
TikTok has collected an extensive user base in India, where it now has 300 million monthly users.
However, it does not yet have rights for large labels such as Universal, Warner and Sony.
This is crucial for ByteDance's music streaming service to expand to North America, Europe, or Latin America, Bloomberg noted.

Last year the app was merged with the popular music video lip synchronizing app Musical.ly, also with its headquarters in China.
Most children use the app to synchronize themselves with lip synchronization to map hits.
It offers users a range of colorful modification and editing tools, including overlapping music, sound, animated stickers, filters, and augmented reality (AR) for creating short videos.
The Beijing-based social network has more than 500 million active users and the company is now worth more than $ 75 billion (£ 58 billion).
