MANILA, Philippines — The Electoral Commission (Comelec) announced on Monday that it will begin purging its voter database of duplicate or duplicate registrations ahead of the 2023 elections in Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (BSKE).
In a statement, Comelec said the polling body is now set to hold a special Election Registration Commission hearing to address the removal of multiple registrations.
This decision followed the following directives from the Commission en banc:
- The reduction of double or multiple registrations at the local level (city or municipality);
- Deletion of original voter registration records of transferees:
- In the same city or municipality (barangay)
- To another city or municipality and the retention of voter registration records of transferees in the city or municipality to which they are transferred;
- Removal from voter registration records of deceased persons as reported or confirmed by local registrars (as per their duly issued death certificate); And
- The inclusion/exclusion from voter registration records in accordance with decisions/orders of Metropolitan Magistrates’ Courts/Municipal Magistrates’ Courts/Municipal Magistrates’ Courts in cities.
After the hearing, the Election Day Computerized Voters List and the Displayed Computerized Voters List will be distributed to the Parish Pastoral Council of Accredited Citizens for Responsible Voting and the National Movement for Free Elections for inspection and review.
In May, Comelec found around 400,000 double or multiple registrants for the October 30 BSKE.
