A comedian dressed as Superman was hit unexpectedly by a bus after he tried, but failed, to show off his strength by stopping the moving vehicle with his hand.

Luiz Ribeiro de Andrade, who goes by the name ‘Superman’, was hit by a bus in the Brazilian municipality of Barra dos Coqueiros on May 30 when his stunt went wrong.

The 35-year-old presenter was dressed head-to-toe in a classic red-and-blue Superman outfit as he filmed himself trying to prove his superpower by using his hand to stop a bus.

Footage shows the man of steel standing confidently in the middle of the road, holding a microphone as a bus drives straight toward him.

But the video shows that things quickly deteriorate when the future Superman is hit by a bus, before stumbling forward in surprise.

Despite his stunt failing epically, Luiz is seen calmly crossing the road afterwards and appears unharmed after the collision.

In the clip, he joked, “Now I’ve seen that I’m really made of steel.”

In an interview he gave to F5 News the following day, Luiz said he misjudged his distance and ended up being hit by the bus, rather than simply stopping it with his hand.

He also said the “hand of God” saved him from more serious injuries in his stunt, adding that luckily he felt “nothing” with the “knock.”

He added that the accident was entirely his fault and that there was no problem with the bus’s brakes, as he had suggested in his video.

He told F5 News: “I take responsibility for everything. I went to the bus company so that the driver would not be punished.

“There was no problem with the brakes. He did what he could and I acted wrong.

“It’s a stunt I always do, but this time it almost ended in an accident, and it wasn’t serious because the hand of God was there.

‘I didn’t feel the blow. I was touched by my own fault and there a miracle of God took place. God then acted and protected me.’

The transport company Setransp has emphasized in a statement ‘the importance of paying attention to traffic (and) providing all necessary care’.
