Hundreds of riot police from the New York Police Department have surrounded the pro-Palestinian camp at Columbia University.
A shelter-in-place alert was issued because the Morningside campus only began mobilizing Tuesday night.
Students were warned that non-compliance “could result in further discipline” as officers dressed in riot gear descended.

The stunt was the latest escalation in the unrest that has rocked the school in recent weeks.
Activists have been camped on the south lawn of the Ivy League school since April 17.
Protesters have been demanding that the university divest from companies with ties to Israel or companies that profit from its war against Hamas.
University officials have been fighting to shut down the camp, saying it violates university policies.
Following the occupation of Hamilton Hall, President Minouche Shafik warned that those involved would face expulsion.
At a news conference before the raid, the NYPD said it was willing to help if the university requested it.
