A leading colon cancer surgeon and specialist has revealed five of the everyday things he would “never do” in a bid to safeguard his own health.
Pennsylvania-based Dr. Philip Pearson says the first thing he wouldn’t use is facial wipes.
This is because it claims that the wipes, used to remove makeup and dirt, contain “chemicals that can destroy the skin.” ‘Why do it?’ he jokes.
An NIH study that examined 178 facial wipes purchased at four large U.S. retailers identified a total of 485 ingredients in the products.
An average facial wipe was found to contain 16.7 ingredients.
The researchers noted that “many potential allergens” are present in facial wipes, including fragrances, preservatives, synthetic liquids and cleaning agents.
This cocktail of ingredients could potentially irritate the skin, they said.
The FDA notes that “many, but not all, wipes are regulated as cosmetics” and if you have sensitive skin or certain allergies, it’s best to check the ingredients list before using them on your skin.

Next on Dr. Pearson’s list of banned products is hemorrhoid cream. The Preparation H ointment brand stands out as one of the worst offenders.
In a TikTok video he explains his reasoning, telling viewers: “I wouldn’t use Preparation H or any other hemorrhoid cream because it’s greasy, it doesn’t work, it doesn’t do anything, and it costs a lot of money.”
Dr. Stone Mitchell, a Tennessee-based hemorrhoid specialist, also says that hemorrhoid creams do not treat the source of the problem.
He explains: ‘Haemorrhoids are simply swollen veins around the rectal area, which are often the result of excess pressure in the pelvic or rectal area.
Your browser does not support iframes.
“Unfortunately, for those at higher risk for hemorrhoids, the creams do not actually treat the swollen veins, but simply numb the swollen tissue or provide some other type of symptom relief while allowing the real problem to persist and depend on the condition.” body to repair itself.
Dr. Mitchell advises using hemorrhoid cream to relieve symptoms and making an appointment with a specialist right away.
For his third no-no, Dr. Pearson says he would never do a colon cleanse to “eliminate stool.”
He says the poop should be in the colon and “it’s okay…leave it alone.”
There are two main types of colon cleansing.
One type cleanses the colon with a large amount of liquid. This is commonly called colonic or colonic irrigation.
To perform the procedure, a tube is placed into the rectum, the last few centimeters of the large intestine.
The other main type of colon cleansing, called an enema, empties the colon using a small amount of liquid. Some cleanses used to detox use herbal or coffee solutions instead of water.
Princess Diana was one of the first public figures to openly get colonics in the 1990s, claiming they took “all the aggro” out of her. Since then, stars including actresses Kate Beckinsale and Jennifer Aniston have admitted to using the treatment.

Pop stars Madonna, Courtney Love and Britney Spears are also fans, along with singer Usher.
The R&B artist once explained, “As someone who travels a lot, you don’t always eat like you should, so a lot of waste builds up in your body.”
The fluid remains in the large intestine for a short period before being eliminated.
While colon cleanses have become increasingly popular and many believe the treatment can help protect against colon cancer, Dr. Michael Picco highlights that there is no evidence to support this.
The Florida-based gastroenterologist writes in an article for the Mayo Clinic: ‘Colon detoxification is also not recommended or necessary for any medical condition.
‘Some alternative medicine practitioners believe that toxins from the digestive tract can cause headaches, arthritis and other conditions.
‘They think that colon cleansing eliminates toxins and increases energy or the immune system. But there is no evidence that colon cleansing offers these useful effects.’

Instead of colon cleanses, colon cancer experts recommend exploring a high-fiber diet to fend off the disease.
Specialists at MD Anderson Cancer Center say that “the best source of this important nutrient is unprocessed plant-based foods.” That is, vegetables, fruits and whole grains.
Dr. Pearson also warns that colon cleansing can be dangerous and coffee enemas have been linked to many deaths.
Returning to the topic of hemorrhoids, the doctor says that never Let’s assume you had a hemorrhoid based on how you feel.
He advises: “If you have any doubts, go see a doctor and have someone check you out.”
There are several different types of hemorrhoids, with external hemorrhoids showing the most visible symptoms, including swelling around the anus and bleeding.
Meanwhile, internal hemorrhoids, located inside the rectum, rarely cause discomfort until they pass through the anal opening.
Hemorrhoids, colon cancer, and anal cancer have some overlapping symptoms, such as bleeding and itching, making it important to seek medical attention immediately.
Moving on to an area that Dr. Pearson is not as familiar with, the fifth thing he says he would never do is eye surgery.
And he concludes: ‘I am not an ophthalmologist. I am not board certified. That’s the wrong side of the person. I don’t know what I’m doing, so I wouldn’t do that. So there you have it.
