One of Western Australia’s largest residential construction companies has collapsed and Collier Homes has fallen into liquidation after more than 60 years.
The Australian Securities and Investments Commission confirmed on Tuesday that the company would close and Robert Conry Brauer and Linda Methven Smith of McGrath Nicol would be appointed liquidators.
Collier Homes was established in 1959 by Raymond McCarthy.

He lived on Collier Street in the affluent suburb of Applecross.
In 1969, the company was sold to a national real estate developer and then, in 1981, was purchased by its top executive, Ron Smith.
In 1996, national homebuilder Home Australia, based in Adelaide, acquired the business.
The brand’s assets were sold in November 2016 to the current owner, Dario Amara.
The Australian Securities and Investments Commission confirmed on Tuesday the company would close.
In a previous post on the company’s website there was a reference to the industry’s challenges since the Covid-19 pandemic struck.
“We strive to please our customers during these difficult times,” the post said.
“The post-Covid stimuli were well-intentioned, however, they created massive supply chain shortages, delays and labor constraints, all of which resulted in unpredictable cost escalations.”
Amara is a second generation builder with over 40 years of experience.
