HBO on Saturday released a new trailer for The Penguin, DC’s upcoming eight-episode series based on the villainous character Batman.
Starring Colin Farrell, 48, the show will premiere Thursday, September 19 at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT and will also be available to stream on Max.
The Penguin follows the events that take place after 2022’s The Batman, starring Robert Pattinson and Zoe Kravitz.
The plot sees Oswald Cobblepot, better known as The Penguin, attempt to take over the criminal underworld of Gotham City.
The latest trailer begins with the main character slow dancing with his mother, who reminds him that she promised him “a beautiful life.”

He assures her, “I’m working on it, Mom,” before stating in a voiceover that “the world is not ready for the honest man to succeed.”
Oz then reiterates: “The world doesn’t work like that,” as viewers are shown a gruesome scene of him stabbing someone.
In another shot showing the villain in a one-on-one conversation with a young man, he says, “America is a hustle.”
Colin appeared at San Diego Comic-Con this weekend, where the new trailer was unveiled, via virtual call from Macau, China, where he is filming a new movie.
The visualizer introduces the perspective of a “gang war” as Oz conveys his strategy to “burn an empire from the inside out.”
“Trust me, this is just the beginning,” he says later, apprehensively.
Cristin Milioti, Rhenzy Feliz, Michael Kelly, Shohreh Aghdashloo and Deirdre O’Connell also appear in the series.
James Madio, Theo Rossi, Scott Cohen, Clancy Brown, Carmen Ejogo and Michael Zegen round out the cast.

During Saturday’s panel discussion, Batman director Matt Reeves explained that the Penguin is “a power vacuum in Gotham,” according to Deadline.
He described him as a “totally underrated figure but he has this fire inside him.”
Reeves also revealed that disgraced Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein was part of the inspiration for Penguin’s look.
Colin achieved a remarkable transformation for the role, looking unrecognizable throughout the production.

Farrell transformed his face and body with extensive special effects makeup and prosthetics to portray the iconic Batman villain.
Reeves also confirmed on Saturday that Farrell will return for his next Batman film, which is set to begin shooting in 2025.
“The story of this world had a huge pull for me,” Farrell said at Comic-Con, explaining that he saw his character as a person with “violence and pain etched in (his) face.”
Throughout the show, viewers will examine “Penguin’s life and how broken it is,” delving into “his deep ambition and greed, and the consequences of the events of Oz’s childhood.”
Despite being “a mess,” Farrell said The Penguin was a “tasty character” to explore.
