A Coles employee was rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries after she was allegedly stabbed in the back in a shopping centre.

Emergency services were called to Yamanto Central in Ipswich, south-west of Brisbane, about 5.23pm on Monday, following reports of an alleged stabbing inside Coles.

A woman, aged 63, was treated at the scene and rushed to Princess Alexandra Hospital in a critical condition.

Shocked shoppers were evacuated from the center while police cordoned off Coles and established a large crime scene.

A teenager was approached by a member of the public before being arrested at the scene.

He was detained and spent Monday night being questioned by police. No charges have yet been filed.

“There is no further information at this time,” a police spokesperson told Daily Mail Australia.

The mall has since been reopened, but most stores have closed at night.

Forensic officers were seen inside Coles taking photographs and searching for evidence.
