Coles and Woolworths go head-to-head with new collectables ranges

Coles and Woolworths take on new collections to rival Stickeez and Ooshies – and one of them is the CLEAR favorite

  • Coles Releases New Collection of Harry Potter Cardboard Collectibles
  • Woolworths is following suit, but with a new product called Fix-ems
  • Both new collectibles will be released nationwide on July 6
  • They run for eight weeks or until stock is sold out

Australia’s most popular supermarkets go head to head with their new range of collectible figures.

Coles is releasing collectible Harry Potter cardboard these school holidays to encourage children to play – but this time there’s no plastic in sight.

The supermarket is known for both its 2018 Little Shop campaign and ‘Stickeez’ – featuring small rubber fruit and vegetable items – but faced backlash because so much excess plastic was used to produce them.

The new range of collectibles includes more than 30 Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts characters, including Harry Potter, Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley, made from cardboard that can also be recycled in household recycling bins.

Starting July 6, customers are encouraged to collect four separate playsets featuring iconic settings from the famous wizarding books. The campaign will run for eight weeks.

“We know that Australian fans have been waiting a long time for a collectible campaign like this one from Wizarding World, so we’re really excited to be working with Warner Bros. working together to bring Coles Magical Builders to life,” said Coles chief marketing officer Lisa Ronson.

“Together, we are driving positive change by providing forest-friendly alternatives to plastic,” added Damian Paull, chief executive of Forest Stewardship Council (FSC).

“The Magical Builders range is made from responsibly sourced FSC-certified materials, helping to protect our forests for generations to come.”

All shoppers have to do is spend $30 in one transaction at Coles supermarkets, Coles Online and Coles Express to redeem their collectible.

On the same day Coles launches its campaign, Woolworths is weaving the magic of Disney into their own launch of its latest collectible, releasing a collection of Fix-ems made from at least 80 percent recycled content.

New to the Australian market Fix-ems are reusable woven patches that can be stuck to a variety of surfaces such as metal, glass, plastic and coated cardboard or paper, or can be permanently ironed onto some fabrics such as denim, cotton and polyester for a longer lasting decorative flare.
