Wayne has been in good spirits in recent weeks after leading Plymouth Argyle to two wins in their last four Championship games, boosting their survival bid.
However, his condition just three years after retiring has left his fans worried.
Sky Sports shared a photo of him watching United wearing a black X-shaped coat and several users were quick to urge him to take care of himself.
“It looks really bad,” one account posted in response.
“Hang in there, Wayne,” said another, perhaps tongue-in-cheek.
“Rooney looks older than his age,” added a third. “He needs to take care of himself.”

Wayne confessed in 2022 that he only had one suit that still fit after Jamie Carragher mocked his appearance on Sky’s Monday Night Football.
Jamie noticed that Wayne was wearing the same suit, shirt and tie combination from his induction into the Premier League Hall of Fame a fortnight before the show.
He replied: ‘You know what? There is a reason behind that.
“Obviously, over the last year, I’ve gained a little bit of weight. So it’s actually the only suit that fits me right now; I have to make the most of it.”
Wayne has previously opened up about his struggle to avoid piling on the pounds during his trophy-laden playing career, writing in his 2012 book My Decade In The Premier League: ‘I’m like most guys, I gained a few kilos after the holidays.
“Even if I don’t train for a week, I do two or three.”

Coleen recently opened up about long distance calls with her husband Wayne after he moved to Devon to take up the role of Plymouth manager.
She moved south over the summer to take the job and, despite considering a move, Coleen decided to stay in Cheshire.
Talking to him Mirrorrevealed Coleen, although Devon “seems a long way away”, it is much “easier to get to than Washington DC”, following Wayne’s role at DC United last summer.
“We see him a couple times a week, which is good,” he said. ‘He went to the United States, so this is an advantage because, although it seems very far away, it is easier to get to than Washington, DC.
“There’s a lot of FaceTime and he always calls when we go out in the morning.”
Coleen admitted she considered moving the family to Devon with Wayne, but ultimately decided against it due to the age of her four children, all under 15.
She said her eldest Kai is set to start his GCSEs this year and his football is going well, while her other children are settled at school, so it felt unfair to move them.
Wayne took over as manager of Major League Soccer team DC United last year, but it was previously revealed that Coleen had previously told her friends that He hates America and wouldn’t move there..
A source close to Coleen told MailOnline at the time: ‘She made her views clear to Wayne. There’s no way she wants to go to Washington. Last time, she absolutely hated being there.
“She doesn’t want to live outside the northwest of England, let alone live in Washington again.” The family is more settled than ever.

Wayne accepted the job at Plymouth just four months after being sacked by Birmingham City.
Since then, he has taken on a number of different assignments, including a BBC pundit role for Euro 2024 and appearing on podcasts to delve into his past.
