Former Chelsea midfielder Joe Cole claims the Blues decided not to sign Sergio Aguero because of ‘his form’.
Speaking before Aguero made his last appearance in a City shirt in Saturday’s Champions League final against Chelsea, Cole revealed how his former club turned down the opportunity to sign the Argentinian from Atletico Madrid in 2009.
Cole told BT Sport: ‘Chelsea was after him. They looked at this shape. I think maybe the shape of him they passed on to him at the time, which was clearly a mistake. ‘

Manchester City signed Aguero two years later for £ 35 million and he became the club’s all-time leading scorer.
But Joleon Lescott admitted he didn’t expect his former teammate to become the player he has when he arrived at Etihad a decade ago.
Lescott said, “Exceptional player, person. When he first arrived I did not expect him to become the man he has become. I don’t think anyone, whoever they sign, will follow that.

‘As a person he adapted to life here. He quickly learned English. He’s a great team player and he has that selfishness you need too. ‘
Agüero scored the memorable late winner against QPR to seal the title in 2012.
Lescott added, “I can’t think of an occasion when I felt that way before or after. The reaction to everything was special. ‘
