Cole Palmer scored in the 10th and 11th minutes of added time to secure a remarkable comeback for Chelsea, sparking wild scenes at Stamford Bridge as manager Mauricio Pochettino led the celebrations at full-time.

Manchester United thought they had sealed their own comeback after coming back from 2-0 down to go 3-2 up, only for Palmer to score twice against the team he supported in his youth to secure his hat-trick and victory. .

The fact that United led as the clock passed 99 minutes and 17 seconds meant that this was the last time a team had led in a Premier League match that they then lost.

After a game in which there were a staggering 47 shots (28 for Chelsea and 19 for United), Palmer said: “A crazy game.” When the eight minutes were up, he gave us a push. Craziness. He did not know what to do. He was running when I scored. To win like this, there is nothing better.”

Palmer’s hat-trick involved two penalties and he said: “A hat-trick is a hat-trick.” It was my first. I’m very happy about that. I have received some sanctions this season. If they penalize me, I will try to score, I will not try to miss.”

Cole Palmer was the hat-trick hero of the night for Chelsea and sealed a truly memorable victory.

Palmer was the hero in a start-to-finish clash in west London in which the teams shared 47 shots.

‘When we scored he (Pochettino) said “two minutes, let’s go.” He is always trying to push us. We tried and luckily we scored.

‘He’s a big winner. He is a huge momentum builder. He puts everyone in a good mood. “Hopefully we can move forward.”

Pochettino added: “It’s a start to building a connection with the fans and it will be very useful for our future.”

United manager Erik ten Hag said after all the chaos: “It was an incredible game for the neutral team. A fantastic game of football with a lot of quality. Manchester United dominated the game but we made individual mistakes that cost us the game We have to learn from it.

“When you are a Man United player you should already know how to deal with this circumstance. I enjoyed how my team played, it was fantastic. We dominated the ball, we dominated the rival.

‘In five days we lost five points. That is unacceptable. “We should have a high level if we want to compete for the Champions League.”

United captain Bruno Fernandes added: “We had the game in our hands and we gave it away.” It’s an important game (against Liverpool on Sunday). I don’t need to say anything (to my teammates). “If I have to say something it’s a problem because this is a huge club.”
