Thousands of Coldplay fans lined the end of one of Dublin’s busiest streets to see a surprise appearance by the band, but some fans were left disappointed that they were unable to hear the concert.
After a rumour spread on Wednesday that a major artist would be playing an unannounced gig on Grafton Street, fans from across the capital flocked to the shopping street ahead of the scheduled 8pm start time.
Singer Chris Martin, accompanied by rapper Burna Boy, entered Grafton Street shortly after 8pm amid heightened security and an increased Irish police presence.
Coldplay are in Dublin for four sold-out shows at the 82,000-capacity Croke Park as part of their record-breaking Music Of The Spheres world tour.
It has sold more than 10 million tickets so far, making it the best-attended music tour of all time.

They were greeted with cheers and applause as the upper floor windows of several shops opened to reveal several professional cameras filming the action below.
Martin and Burna Boy joined Little Simz, Elyanna and TINI for the first public performance of We Pray featuring all the artists.
They performed the same song several times while fans recorded videos with their mobile phones and sang along.
The short session was part of a music video that will debut on the band’s official TikTok channel.
The performance was met with a mixed reaction, with the lack of speakers among the large crowd disappointing many who were too far away to hear properly, leading some fans to leave before the event ended.
Niamh Burke, a teacher from Tipperary, said she did not know why the same song had been played over and over again, but added: “I enjoyed it. It was exciting to see them in person.”
However, he expressed disappointment with the sound setup.
Asked what she thought of the event, another fan who did not want to be identified said: “I don’t know what it was, but it was a waste of time anyway.”
