CNN star Jim Acosta could soon be exiled to “the Siberia of television news” in the network’s attempt to curry favor with new President Donald Trump.

The CNN veteran, 53, has been embroiled in a long-running feud with Trump, who has described him as a “rude, terrible person” and accused him of reporting “fake news” during Acosta’s time as a White House correspondent in the first administration .

Now CNN chief Mark Thompson has reportedly moved the successful, highly rated 10 a.m. show to the dreaded midnight timeslot, the Newsletter status reports.

“They want to get rid of Acosta to throw a bone to Trump,” an insider told the publication.

“Midnight isn’t a serious offer if its ratings are among the best on the network.”

The move would “effectively banish Acosta to the Siberia of television news,” the report said.

Thompson reportedly hopes to fit Acosta into the programming from midnight to 2 a.m. ET, with the assurance that the show will in turn air during prime time on the West Coast and stream internationally.

Acosta’s ratings in its current 10 a.m. timeslot are among the network’s best.

The timing of the call – just days before Trump is due to return to power – has raised suspicions that CNN is trying to build a better relationship with the new president.

Acosta’s relationship with Trump was so sour during the first term that the White House revoked his press pass in 2018 after a heated clash.

That decision was later challenged when Acosta and CNN presented it before a federal judge.

Acosta’s back-and-forth with Trump went viral and resulted in Trump telling him to “sit down” as aides wrestled the microphone from his hands.

Trump said: “CNN should be ashamed that you work for them. You are a rude, terrible person. You shouldn’t be working for CNN.”

Then, during a separate press conference in 2020, Acosta said, “Mr. President, I think our record of delivering the truth is sometimes a lot better than yours.”

“Let me tell you about your record, your record is so bad you should be ashamed of yourself,” Trump responded. “You have the worst record in the history of broadcasting.”

On another occasion, Acosta asked Trump, “What do you say to critics who say you are creating a national emergency?” That you’re here inventing a national emergency to get your wall.”

Now, CNN chief Mark Thompson has reportedly moved Acosta's successful, highly rated 10 a.m. show to a new midnight timeslot.

Trump snapped back: “Your question is a very political question because you have an agenda. You are CNN. You are fake news.”

Acosta’s reported move is the latest in a series of shakeups the network is reportedly considering, and would clear the way for longtime anchor Wolf Blitzer, 76, to slide into a new morning timeslot to replace him.

He currently enjoys a plum spot on the cusp of primetime crewing The Situation Room on weekdays from 6pm to 7pm ET. He’s done that for the past twenty years, and the new shuffle could earn him an extra hour of fame.

However, some suggested the move could be an ‘off-ramp’ for the broadcaster as it enters its golden years.

The revelation comes hours after Acosta was mocked for holding a sign praising his own achievements live on air.

He held up a bright pink sign that read: “I’m marching for Jim Acosta and a free press.”

Acosta added, “A woman sent me a sign eight years ago, which she carried here during a march in Washington.

“She wrote on the back of the sign to me and the press here in DC: ‘You have our support.’ To Nora, wherever you are, back to you.”

Journalist Glenn Greenwald shared the clip, adding, “This downright partisan bastard really thinks he is the conscience of America.

‘I have never seen such a momentous, hypocritical blow in all my life. And no, I’ll never get over the fact that he wrote a book that was bought by stupid liberals and portrayed himself as endangered.”

Earlier in the segment, Acosta referenced Biden’s farewell speech on Wednesday evening, in which he openly complained about a so-called increasing oligarchy in the United States.

‘(President Biden) warned that the free press in this country is crumblingI would like to add that this is only possible if we, the people, let it happen.

‘Journalists are there to seek the truth, to tell people’s stories, to raise voices that might otherwise go unheard.

“To shine a light on injustice and hold the powerful accountable, we are not the enemy of the people, but the defender of the people.”
