A clumsy bank robber is caught after his fake leg fell off in a struggle with customers.
Staff and customers helped police arrest the 45-year-old Italian man who held a bank branch in Spain at gunpoint with another man.
The incident happened on Friday at the Sabadell branch in Alicante.
Police were told that two men had broken into the bank, one of whom brandished a gun and demanded staff to hand over money from the tills.
But after the alarm was raised, customers, staff and passers-by grabbed one of the men and grabbed him to the ground.
During the struggle, the man’s false leg fell off, rendering him unable to run, police confirmed.

The suspect, who has not been named, was bundled into a police car and taken to a police station in the southern Spanish city.
A search is underway for the second man, who, according to police, managed to escape, although neither man made off with money.

A police spokesman confirmed: ‘A call was received at 2 p.m. that a robbery had taken place at a Sabadell bank branch in Alicante’s Plaza America.’
“Emergency protocol was activated and a device was put in place that frustrated the robbery and culminated in the arrest of one of the perpetrators who was armed with a handgun that was eventually determined to be simulated.”
“At least one perpetrator has fled, more identification and location management is being carried out by the robbery brigade of the Alicante Judicial Police Brigade.”
