Claudia Winkleman has revealed in a new interview which British royal inspired her ‘Highland Gothic’ wardrobe in The Traitors.
The award-winning BBC reality series has given Claudia’s image a complete makeover – with the Strictly Come Dancing presenter swapping her sequin dresses and stilletos for boots, trench coats, kilts, chunky jumpers and turtlenecks.
The 52-year-old host’s style on The Traitors has found favor with viewers, and several fans are eager to get their hands on similar outfits.
Deconstructing her look on the show, which was filmed in the Scottish Highlands, Claudia recently shared that her stylist Sinead McKeefry turned to the Princess Royal for inspiration.
During an appearance on The Graham Norton Show, Claudia, 52, said that she and McKeefry – who have worked together for 20 years – “always like to have a muse” when choosing their outfits.
“For Strictly, it’s been (EastEnders legend) Anita Dobson and this year it was (Greek singer) Demis Roussos,” he told presenter Graham Norton.
“For Traitors, Princess Anne meets (English soprano) Sarah Brightman,” he continued.
This is not the first time Claudia has referenced Princess Anne, whose timeless ‘countrycore’ aesthetic has earned her fashionista status, while discussing her appearance in The Traitors.

Deconstructing her look on the show, which was filmed in the Scottish Highlands, Claudia recently shared that her stylist Sinead McKeefry turned to the Princess Royal for inspiration.
Before the show’s second season premiered last January, Claudia creatively described one of her outfits. like “the sea monster meets Princess Anne, and then they go to a golf sale and nod to Jane McDonald.”
Along with Claudia and her longtime stylist McKeefry, Princess Anne, 74, has also served as a muse for Silvia Venturini Fendi, the matriarch of the revered Italian fashion house Fendi, who dedicated a menswear collection to the mother of two children.
“I fell in love with the style of Princess Anne, who, in my opinion, is the most elegant woman in the world,” Venturini Fendi previously said. ‘When I saw the Coronation… with Princess Anne in her uniform, I thought she looked beautiful.
“So I said, ‘Let’s get inspired for a men’s collection.’
During Fendi’s AW24 men’s show last year, models walked the runway in waxed jackets, wellies and tartan embellishments as the prolific fashion designer paid homage to Anne’s timeless style.
Praising Princess Anne’s equal parts practical and feminine wardrobe choices, Venturini Fendi added: “I liked the idea of breaking barriers, breaking masculine and feminine codes.
“The Princess Royal is very rigorous in her way of dressing, with her military attitude, but feminine at the same time,” he continued. “She’s kind of an anti-fashion person and, to me, that’s something that’s actually very fashionable and chic.”

Princess Anne looks well covered up in 1984. Little did she know this would inspire an entire look for the Fendi show in 2024.

Designer Silvia Venturini Fendi called Anne “the most chic woman in the world… capable of maintaining her femininity by wearing a uniform.”

Princess Anne, who is as comfortable in her Barbour wellies and jackets as she is in her designer dresses, is known for her sustainable approach to fashion – the royals often recycle their outfits for public events.
In an interview with Vanity Fair, she said she reused clothes “because I’m pretty bad.”
She also spoke out against disposable fast fashion during her Sri Lanka tour last year, saying: “You think about how much goes to landfills… we need materials that can make more of a fashion evolution.”
The princess previously joked that she liked wearing military attire, like the Gold Stick in Waiting uniform she chose for her coronation as King Charles, “because it solves my wardrobe problem” in an interview with Vanity Fair.
The third season of The Traitors is currently underway, with a new group of Faithful competing to find and banish the murderous traitors in their midst in the hope of winning a huge £120,000 prize.
Claudia reprises her role as presenter of the show, presiding over Ardross Castle in Ross-shire, in the Scottish Highlands, where the show is filmed.
Her wardrobe has been designed by McKeefry, and fashion columnists say the aesthetic suits the Scottish castle setting and the show’s sinister themes.
Fans and critics also praised the duo for highlighting the work of Scottish designers and brands on the show.
Some of these include fashion brands Barrie, one of Scotland’s oldest manufacturers of cashmere fabrics, Brora and Johnston’s of Elgin.
