The television presenter appeared in the fifth series of the acclaimed podcast. Plate with Waitrose for a recent episode.

Speaking to podcast hosts Nick Grimshaw and Angela Hartnett, Claudia said she was asked to host the show three or four years ago but turned it down “for licking her eyebrows”.

“And because of my innate laziness,” Claudia added, before saying that she had recommended many other presenters who might take on the gig, which was filmed at Ardross Castle.

However, determined to keep Claudia in the hosting race, a BBC boss encouraged her to watch the Dutch version of the series, and soon the Strictly Come Dancing presenter was offering to book her own train to Scotland.

She said: “I thought, ‘I’m so sorry I can’t go to Scotland for three and a half weeks, but thank you so much for thinking of me. And why don’t you ask the following people? Thank you.” you, goodbye.”

And they said, “Just before you flat out say no, can we send you the tapes of the Dutch version?”

And I was like, “Yeah, okay, I’m not really going to be able to…” and then four days later, “Have you seen it yet?” I was like, no… I’m taking a nap.”

Claudia continued: ‘And then I watched all twelve in one go, which, Ange will tell you, was important because I have to be… I go to sleep at nine.

‘So, and I was like, I can’t go to bed. And then, yes, I texted my BBC boss Kate and said, “I’ll book my own train. Yes, I’m coming. I’m going to Inverness.”

Claudia described the game as “exceptional”, before saying: “But also the people who make it are exceptional.”

Later in the podcast, Claudia said the success of the first series “took our breath away”. “I mean, Sarah, my boss, who’s my producer, we were overwhelmed,” she added.

Claudia also revealed secrets from the show, explaining that the contestants were sent to separate houses after each day at the castle so they couldn’t confer, and didn’t see each other again until breakfast.

“The amazing thing about that castle is that if you leave it, you will see that there are so many tributaries,” he said.

“So they are all marked by the man, they have someone who takes care of them and when they leave the castle, they don’t see each other until they get to breakfast.”

The contestants were not allowed to use their phones during filming and, because it got dark so late in the Scottish Highlands, the days were long.

‘What, what time do they go to bed?’ —Nick asked Claudia. ‘Once you call it a night and the bong hits, what time is it, approximately?’

Claudia replied: “Probably midnight,” before saying “Because it gets dark, we’re so far north it gets dark, incredibly late.”

So that the faithful do not see the Traitors together, they all leave in their cars at the same time.
