First day! Claire Foy was seen on the set of A Very British Scandal as she filmed the first scenes of the new BBC drama on Tuesday.

Appearing on set, Claire radiated 1950s style in the sophisticated ensemble, which she delivered with a pearl necklace and a light gray clutch.

Claire’s character – Margaret – sported a drunken haircut and a full face full of makeup enhanced her porcelain complexion, who also boasted a lick of red lipstick.

In one image, Claire was seen getting out of the back of a chauffeur-driven vintage car at the London filming location.

While in other footage she was shielded from the sun’s rays with a large black umbrella by crew members as they filmed during the British heat wave.

Claire will star opposite Paul Bettany, 50, who will play her husband the Duke of Argyll, but he was not pictured on set that day.

The three-part drama follows the couple’s marriage from 1951 until their subsequent divorce in 1963.

Speculation surrounding the divorce involved an explicit photo and suggestions Margaret had with more than 80 men, some of whom were ministers and members of the royal family.

There has been a media frenzy surrounding the divorce and BBC One has partnered with Amazon Studios to portray the real events on screen.

The events have been described as one of the most infamous and brutal lawsuits of the 20th century.

Public attention was drawn to the case because of the charisma, beauty and style of Margaret, Duchess of Argyll – who also regularly made the front pages.

There is currently no air date for the Sarah Phelps-written drama.

In a statement, author Sarah said: “Writing the story of Margaret’s life and the events leading up to and including her divorce from the Duke has been a passion project of mine since 1993, when I first heard her name.

“I felt very strongly that she had been punished for being a woman, for being visible, for refusing to back down, to be a good girl and to leave quietly. This drama is my tribute to her.’

Meanwhile, WandaVision’s Paul, who will play the Duke, said: “I am delighted to be working with the remarkable Claire Foy to tell the fascinating and outrageous story of the Duke and Duchess of Argyll and their very complicated lives.

“I’m also thrilled to have the opportunity to work with the great teams at the BBC and Amazon Studios again.”
