Lopez was 27 when she did the poolside sit-down with the Movieline magazine in February or 1998, the year after she shot to major prominence with her titular role in the 1997 film Selena. (She was ahead of massive success on the music charts with hits like 1999's If You Had My Love and Waiting for Tonight.)

In the unearthed interview, which has gone viral on Twitter, she already had plenty of confidence, boasting or her considerable talents in saying, "I'm the best."

And among dismissive words said about the fellow Hollywood stars, J Lo said of Claire: "I feel like I see a lot of the same thing with every character she does."

Lopez claimed three years later, in a 2001 interview with Vanity Fair, that the chat was 'a sore subject' because she 'was so misquoted and so out of context.'

She added, "I don't like to hurt anybody. I don't like to hurt their feelings. I like to joke, so I do that sometimes. What they wrote in that article hurt people. '

She expounded further on the chat speaking with NPR last year about the blow-back of the vitriolic chat.

"It gave me a lot of notoriety in the moment," she said, "and then it made a lot of people in the industry really pissed off."

She said the interview was something of a learning experience, saying, "I didn't realize my words could impact people that way."
