ZAMBOANGA CITY, Zamboanga del Sur – A member of the Citizen Armed Force Geographical Unit (CAFGU) and a civilian peace volunteer ambushed a police officer in Barangay Parangbasak, Lamitan City, on Friday afternoon, police said.
The incident happened around 3:30 PM when police personnel Sgt. Jun Jabbal Arasal was driving past the village on his way to Ungkaya Pukan town when he was confronted with a volley of fires, said Colonel Arlan Delumpines, director of Lamitan city police,
Arasal, a member of the Isabela City Police Department, was traveling with his two cousins, who were unharmed by the attack. Arsal, meanwhile, was injured by broken glass when a bullet pierced the windshield of his vehicle.
Arasal identified the suspects as Lipunan Docol, a member of the CAFGU, and Lim Amaran, a member of the Civilian Volunteer Organization in Parangbasak village.
Delumpines said they responded immediately and went to the ambush site together with personnel from the 1st Police Mobile Force Company, and cooperated with the military in the area for further investigation and eye inspection.
The ambush on Friday afternoon is the first recorded violation of the gun ban related to the October 30 barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections.
