Officials from the King County Sheriff's Office said the equipment malfunctioned and there is nothing suspicious.

"Cirque du Soleil employees escorted these audience members out of the Big Top and offered them assistance."

Member of the public Jonathan Fay said that the liquid shot of the stage and returned several rows.

The people on the stage started to slide.

Another member of the audience, Chase Costello, shared a video of the oil spill on stage on Instagram.

"Sitting in the circus and this happens in the opening act, everything I have is soaked in hydraulic oil," he wrote on Instagram.

The show was canceled approximately 30 minutes after the presentation.

Cirque du Soleil said in a statement that members of the audience will be reimbursed.

Friday's show was the first of two months at Marymoor Park in Redmond. It will run until November 4.

A performer from Cirque du Soleil died in March during a performance in Florida when his hand slipped in double rings and fell 20 feet.
