Cillian Murphy has revealed that he has adopted a vegan diet and shared the element he misses the most, having previously been a vegetarian for over a decade.
Cillian, 47, shared the news of his decision on an episode of the WTF With Marc Maron Podcast, which resurfaced after its first release in July.
Veganism prohibits the consumption of any food or drink containing meat, dairy and eggs, as part of a practice that forces people to refrain from the use of any animal products.
When Marc asked if he missed eating meat as part of his diet, Murphy shared, “I don’t miss meat, no. I’ve stopped eating meat for a long time.
He added: “I kind of relapsed and didn’t feel better, so I quit again.”

However, he added that he enjoyed a “very delicious” venison during a brief relapse, but reaffirmed that he “no longer eats (meat).”
When asked what foods he missed most after going from vegetarian to vegan, Cillian said: “I miss cheese.”
He went on to say that he had chosen to be one for both ethical and health reasons.
Elaborating on his decision, he said, “In the beginning there was a lot of mad cow disease and stuff like that going on… it was a bad scene.” So I just don’t do it now.’
This echoes comments he made in a 2017 interview about fear of the disease, which is medically known as bovine spongiform encephalopathy.
He said: ‘I was a vegetarian for about 15 years. But it was never a moral decision. What I was most worried about was contracting mad cow disease.’
His period of vegetarianism was interrupted by his preparation for Peaky Blinders, after his trainer advised him to eat meat in an effort to bulk up and look less “like a skinny Irish guy”.
Cillian’s diet change comes as it was confirmed he will return to Peaky Blinders for a film based on the series.

He played gangster Tommy Shelby in the BBC series which ended in 2022; will begin filming later this year with the rest of the cast.
Creator Steven Knight shared the exciting news while speaking to BirminghamWorld at the premiere of his new BBC show This Town on March 21.
He said: “He will definitely come back for it.” We’ll film it in September, near Digbeth.
The film will begin filming at Birmingham’s Digbeth Loc studios in September and will be set during the Second World War.
Cillian had previously said of the project earlier this year: “I’ve always said that if Knight delivers a script that I know he can deliver, because he’s a phenomenal writer, I’ll be there.
‘If we want to see Tommy Shelby, 50, I’ll be there. Let’s do it.’
