Beloved BBC presenter Jon Kay has broken his silence after fans asked him why he wasn’t on the red sofa.
Jon, 54, has presented the show Monday to Wednesday since January 2023, alongside Sally Nugent, who has been there for almost a decade.
Fans were left confused last week when, instead of Jon, they were greeted by Ben Thompson sitting next to Sally.
But the beloved presenter revealed that he was actually on holiday with his family in Cornwall – but unfortunately for the dad-of-three, the sun wasn’t on his agenda.
Taking to Instagram on Saturday, Jon shared a carousel of photos from the trip and said: “Fantastic few days in Cornwall. After years of working there as a journalist, it’s great to be able to visit for some family fun.’

Revealing that the holiday was not all plain sailing, Jon added: “He had a flat tyre. It rained every day. As you can see, I fell into a muddy ditch (and then pretended it was a deliberate April Fool’s Day; no one was fooled), but we had a wonderful spring break. I hope you enjoyed some time off too.

He has three children with his wife Francesca, who are kept out of the spotlight.

Last month, Sally struggled to contain herself on the iconic red sofa as she listened to the story of an animal lover who mistook the top of a pom-pom hat for a needy hedgehog.
The host, 52, burst into laughter as co-host Jon Kay read stories of would-be good Samaritans who mistook inanimate objects for animals in need.
As Jon read aloud submissions from viewers who mistook food (and worse) for spiky mammals, the journalist couldn’t contain herself and had to cover her face as she laughed at the mortifying mistakes.
Sally laughed when Jon told her about a woman who mistook a fruit loaf she had thrown to birds for an animal, while a man described carrying a piece of horse poop off the road after stopping traffic to rescue it. who thought he was a hedgehog. .

In both cases, within minutes of each other, Sally lost her composure as she tried to process the hysterical stories, much to Jon’s amusement.
Sally had been sharing the story of Cheshire Animal Hospital director Janet Kotze, who told yesterday how a well-meaning woman had brought what she thought was a hedgehog to be cared for, only to be told it was the part top of a hat with pompom.
She told that story with nothing but professionalism, but when Jon began reading the submissions of others who had made similar mistakes, his mask fell.
One viewer, called Sue, wrote in to tell her story of what she thought was a hedgehog that stayed still all day in her garden. Later that night, she wrapped him in a towel and carefully carried him inside to dry him without examining him more closely.
As Sally begins to laugh and begs to know what the object is, Jon continues telling the story, while she covers her face and scrunches it up laughing.
‘What’s wrong, Jon?’ —She asks, her voice getting louder, while he responds: “It’s a fruit bread,” which causes a new fit of laughter.
Sue admitted that she had thrown a fruit loaf into the garden for the birds to peck at, before forgetting she had done so when she went out to inspect the “pointy” shape the animals had formed when feeding on it.
“Sometimes I can be a little scattered,” Sue’s message read, prompting Jon to add, “You’re telling me, Sue.”
Sally begged Jon for the identity of an object a woman had wrapped in a towel overnight and broke down when he revealed it was a fruit loaf.

“I don’t think anyone will send us a better one than that,” Sally said.
But the star of the Strictly Christmas special was proven wrong minutes later by viewer Theresa, who shared another, even more embarrassing story.
She said her husband had stopped a line of traffic on a rural road while driving home from work after seeing a hedgehog on the road, only to realize, as he approached, that it was a pile of horse droppings.
“He was too embarrassed because everyone was looking at him, so he gently picked up the horse’s poop and put it on the hedge and all the drivers started applauding him, thinking he had saved a hedgehog,” Jon said, as Sally burst out laughing . again.
‘What did he do with his hands then?’ she asked with a laugh, as meteorologist Carol Kirkwood waved her hands in mock horror.
“This is bringing the nation together,” Jon joked.
