AC Milan winger Christian Pulisic received death threats and fresh abuse on social media following his team’s heated 1-0 victory over Lazio.

Lazio finished the match with just eight men, and the USMNT star was involved in two of the three red cards for his opponents.

After the match, Pulisic posted photos on Instagram of him and the Milan team celebrating, which were flooded with nasty posts in the comments section.

There were also many messages of support for the American, including from his Milan teammate Théo Hernandez, who wrote: “Puliiiii, I am your security.”

Luca Pellegrini was sent off in the 67th minute after two yellow cards in a row. Both cards were the result of fouls against Pulisic.

Matteo Guendouzi was later shown a straight red card in added time for reacting badly to a foul by the American standout, who was also booked in the incident.

Guendouzi suffered some tugging on his shirt by Pulisic and retaliated, resulting in both men receiving cards, although the American’s was a yellow card rather than a straight red.

Pulisic signed for Milan from Chelsea in the off-season in the hope of reviving a flagging club career.

He scored seven goals and provided six assists in 25 league games and had a solid first season in his new surroundings.

The hosts finished the match with eight players after defender Adam Marusic was also sent off for a challenge on Leao in added time.

Pulisic was responsible for drawing red cards that led to the sending off of two different Lazio players.

Lazio is the first Serie A team to receive three red cards in a single match since Palermo against Bologna in 2012.

Milan next face Empoli on March 10 after hosting Slavia Prague in the first leg of their Europa League round of 16 tie on Thursday.

Lazio, who remain ninth in the league standings with 40 points having lost three of their last four league games, will face Udinese on March 11.

Maurizio Sarri’s team travels to Bayern Munich in the Champions League round of 16 on Tuesday hoping to maintain a 1-0 lead from the first leg.
