Christian Eriksen has cast doubt on his future at Manchester United and admitted he will have no control over whether he will remain at Old Trafford beyond this season.
Speaking alongside his coach here in Istanbul ahead of Thursday night’s Europa League clash against Fenerbahce, the Dane awkwardly responded to the question of whether his contract, which expires at the end of the current season, could be extended.
“It doesn’t really depend on me when my contract ends, but on the club,” he said.
‘I’m enjoying it here. “When summer comes, if there is an offer, I will definitely take it seriously.”
Eriksen recently revealed while on international duty that contract negotiations are not ongoing at the moment, but club sources have indicated to Mail Sport that they are calm about the situation at this stage of the season.
Christian Eriksen admitted that he has no control over his stay at Man United
The Dane insists he is enjoying life at Man United and has seen an increase in his playing time.
Erik ten Hag will rely on Eriksen’s experience during the clash between Manchester United and Fenerbahçe
The 32-year-old has enjoyed a renaissance this season and is one of only three in-form midfielders to have traveled to Türkiye for this third installment of the Europa League campaign.
Eriksen scored in the 1-1 draw against FC Twente before providing two assists in the exciting 3-3 draw against FC Porto.
When asked about his increased playing time in recent weeks following a rebound in form, the Dane was keen not to get carried away.
“Some games you play and some you don’t,” he added.
“I’ve been in and out for the last two seasons, but I definitely enjoy playing for Manchester United. The manager decides who plays and you do your best when you can.”
With Bruno Fernandes suspended for this clash, one of 10 absent from the first team, Ten Hag will need to lean on players like Eriksen for key attacking contributions, especially in a feverish atmosphere that always awaits English teams in Turkey.
“I think we have enough players in the team,” said the United boss.
‘We have so much experience that we have faced similar situations often. We are looking forward to and will try to create an environment that is fuel for the team. (It is) a challenge, it is a motivation, it is good for us.”
