Chris Pratt is looking to give back to the community in Hawaii, where he was discovered as a teenager by actress Rae Dawn Chong.

Three weeks after West Maui was left in shambles after a catastrophic wildfire, the Jurassic World Dominion star, 44, has announced he has teamed up with clothing brand TravisMathew, ‘to do some good’ .

“Many of you may or may not know I was discovered in Maui. In Lahaina, in particular, fishing for shrimp at Bubba Gump Shrimp Company,” he reminded his 45 million Instagram followers.

Following the natural disaster, which claimed at least 106 lives, the actor said Front Street, often dubbed “Maui’s crown jewel,” was “destroyed.”

“Hundreds of people lost their lives. Thousands more have lost their homes. So today, I’m partnering with TravisMathew for our second annual charity sale event,” he continued. “Every dollar goes to the Maui Strong Fund.”

The sale runs all day on September 1, until 11:59 p.m. PST.

Pratt and TravisMathew revealed they’ve already raised $250,000.

When announcing the sale, TravisMathew shared a photo of Pratt as a young teenager while still living in Aloha State.

“Maui is home to many people including the @travismathew family and a young @prattprattpratt,” the company’s image captioned.

TravisMathew continued, “When Chris was 19, he worked at the Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. restaurant in Maui while living in a van. It was there that he waited for actress Rae Dawn Chong, who ended up casting him in her first film that introduced him.

The brand noted that the community was involved in Chris’ “career development” and “one of the many reasons why” he partnered with them and the Hawai’i Community Foundation to help support the Maui Strong Fund.

In 2014, Pratt opened up about his time “living in a van on Maui.”

At the time, he said he listened to the 1999 track, Forgot About Dre, and “smoked weed every day.”

“Many of you may or may not know I was discovered in Maui. In Lahaina, specifically, I fish for shrimp at the Bubba Gump Shrimp Company,” he reminded fans.

“It’s a really great place to be homeless,” he explained. “It would be different if I lived on the streets of Chicago and ate garbage out of a dumpster.”

At the time, he said he “worked minimal hours, 15-20 hours a week, just enough to cover gas, food and fishing supplies.”

“You know, it was a lovely time,” he said of his days sleeping in his van or in a tent on the beach.

After Chong discovered him at Bubba Gump Shrimp Company in 2000, his life changed completely.

“Initially, my dream was to pay my bills by doing nothing but play,” he says. “I got there, but the dream is constantly evolving. Then my dream was to play roles that were more than the bad guy or the asshole,” he told The Independent.

Pratt continued, “Then it was about playing sidekick roles; then comedy. Now it’s like I’ve crossed that line where I say no to certain things. I could never have imagined this. Before, I would have done commercials for herpes medicine if you wanted to. With pleasure, provided that I no longer have to wait at the table.
