For the show, Hemsworth explores methods to age slower and better, and to live a healthy, fulfilling life. But along the way he found out he’s ‘eight to 10 times more likely to develop Alzheimer’s disease,’ as reported by CNN, which in turns has forced him to reflect on death and his own mortality.
‘It’s not a pre-deterministic gene, but it is a strong indication,’ he said. ‘Ten years ago, I think it was more thought of as determinant.’ Basically, Hemsworth’s genetic makeup includes two copies of the APOE4 gene – one from his mother and another from his father. This combination reportedly leads to an increased Alzheimer’s risk.
