MANILA, Philippines — Choco Mucho wins a bronze medal with Sisi Rondina winning the best outside striker award and Maddie Madayag winning the best middle blocker award at the 2023 VTV Cup on Saturday in Lao Cai, Vietnam.

Rondina scored 24 points as the Flying Titans beat Japan’s Kansai University, 25-20, 23-25, 25-13, 25-18, to clinch third place.

The former University of Santo Tomas UAAP MVP scored all of her points in her 44 offensive attempts. Madayag was also instrumental with 16 points including two blocks and pocket aces, while Caitlin Viray added 13 points.

It was a collective effort for Choco Mucho with setter Deanna Wong dictating the pace as Cherry Nunag contributed 11 points, including three blocks. Des Cheng fired four aces to finish with eight scorers.

The Premier Volleyball League side finished the tournament with four wins from seven matches, including a heartbreaking five-set loss to Vietnam 2 in the semi-finals.

Besides the bronze medal won by the team coached by Dante Alinsunurin, Rondina was named one of the best outside attackers along with Japan’s Hikaru Tamura.

Madayag was also one of the best intermediate blockers in the tournament along with Vietnam 2’s Le Than Thuy.

Vietnam 1 dominated the tournament with Tran Thi Than Thuy winning the Most Valuable Player award and her teammates Doan Thi Lam Oanh and Hoang Thi Kieu Trinh winning the Best Assister and Best Opponent Striker awards respectively.

Vietnam 2 settled for silver with Le Thi Thanh Lien winning the best libero.

Choco Mucho is looking to rise from a seventh-place finish in the Conference Invitational and is looking to end his semifinal drought in the PVL after missing the Final Four of the last four tournaments.
