A lawyer for one of the men charged with the shooting death of Chloe Jade Mason days before Christmas alleged that she was armed with a rifle when she showed up at his client’s home.

Codye Ian Thomson, 29, of Marsden, and Kaine Raymond Thomson-Gleeson, 32, of Caboolture, were each first mentioned in the murder charge on Tuesday in the Brisbane Magistrates Court.

The pair were arrested without incident in Logan, south of Brisbane, on Monday and remained in custody.

Arrest warrants were issued for the brothers after Ms Mason, 23, died after she was allegedly chased and shot on Railway Pde in Caboolture on December 22.

Police said media and members of the public had helped locate the men.

Ken Mackenzie, Thomson-Gleeson’s lawyer, claimed in court on Tuesday that his client had acted in response to an armed threat from Ms Mason.

“What is not in dispute in this case is that Chloe Mason came to the front of Kaine’s house armed with a rifle,” Mackenzie said.

Codye Thomson, 29, and Kaine Thomson-Gleeson, 32, have been charged with murder.

‘Kaine explained to the police that he did not kill Chloe. What he did, he did to defend his home and family against an assassination attempt.

Police do not believe the incident was a random attack and that the parties involved knew each other.

Mackenzie disputed the police statement about his client’s arrest and claimed Thomson-Gleeson was meters from a police station and about to surrender.

Neither Thomson, whose job was listed in court documents as a meat worker, nor Thomson-Gleeson, a plasterer, were required to appear in court in person or by video conference on Tuesday.

Thomson’s lawyer, Brendan Beavon, requested that the matter be heard on January 13 at Caboolture Magistrates’ Court so that a full brief of evidence could be ordered.

Police prosecutor Jordan Theed said the deadline “might be a little tight” but did not oppose the application as it would only result in police being ordered to reveal their evidence at a later date.

Magistrate Lewis Shillito granted Thomson’s request.

Mr Mackenzie asked that the same request be granted for Thomson-Gleeson when his client’s position was mentioned.

“Your Honor has no power to consider a bail application,” Mr Mackenzie said.

Shillito also ordered that Thomson-Gleeson’s case be heard on January 13 at Caboolture Magistrates’ Court for a committal mention.

Police had been searching for the couple in northern New South Wales since the December 22 incident.

Mason’s devastated sisters shared their tributes on social media and launched a fundraiser to pay for his funeral hours after his death on December 22.

Authorities allege Mason knew the two men and had attended a Caboolture address where an altercation occurred and he suffered a fatal gunshot wound.

The brothers remained in custody as those accused of murder in Queensland can only apply for bail to the Supreme Court.

Daily Mail Australia previously revealed Ms Mason was involved in a stabbing that almost claimed her life years before she was shot.

“Now I’m in the (hospital) room,” he shared on social media in 2016.

‘I still have nurses 24/7 around me, checking on me (and) making sure everything is correct and nothing is out of place.

‘I have two drains in my heart to drain all the blood that is leaking from the valve that was cut when the knife penetrated my heart 3cm deep.

“I am fighting this with the love and support of my family and friends.”

The shocking revelation comes after it was revealed that her on-off ex-boyfriend, Kane Alexanderson, 18, was stabbed to death in 2020 during a knife fight.

Hours after his death, Mason’s devastated sister launched a fundraiser to share a heartbreaking message.

“Chloe was only 23,” Hannah McKone posted on GoFundMe.

‘Being so close to Christmas, his family has no savings or financial means to organize a funeral for him.

‘We kindly ask for help and support in this. All donated funds will be used directly for Chloe’s funeral.

Another sister, Danni Mason, remembered Chloe as a “daughter, sister, aunt and friend… who was loved by many.”

“This loss has devastated our family and we are having a hard time accepting this so close to the holidays,” he wrote.

‘As sisters, we mourn the things she will not experience, all the things we cannot share and the memories we will not make. β€œShe was an incredible woman.”
