    A man accused of fleeing police at a Covid-19 stop before snatching a gun from a cop during a dramatic arrest has been slapped with a string of charges.

    The 32-year-old man was driving a Ford Focus in Sydney’s inner-city Surry Hills on Friday night when he was detained as part of ongoing Covid-19 compliance checks.

    Police say the man refused to open his window and drove off when an officer tore open his back door and ordered him to stop.

    The Maroubra man led police on a dangerous chase before coming into traffic at the intersection of Cleveland and Boundary Streets.

    When police tried to get him out of the car, the man reportedly grabbed an officer’s firearm in a holster.

    He was attacked by more officers and taken to Surry Hills Police Station, where he was charged with a series of charges related to the alleged chase and arrest.

    The 32-year-old Maroubra man was refused bail and appeared before the Parramatta Bail Court on Saturday.
