Chipotle is bringing in some extra flavor, spicy baby with its latest creation.
The Tex-Mex-inspired food chain announced Tuesday that it will add chicken al pastor to its menus around the world for a limited time. The debut of the entrée marks the first time the company has launched a new menu innovation at all of its 3,200 locations in the US, Canada and Europe.
The chicken al pastor is a new option for chipotle protein seasoned with adobo, morita chile and ground annatto with a touch of pineapple and fresh lime.
Chris Brandt, director of marketing for the Newport Beach, California-based brand, said the concept gained “mass appeal in recent years” as customers sought unique menu items that cannot be prepared at home.
“We have given our own spicy touch to the pastor with our freshly roasted chicken and we have created a truly delicious menu item that fans crave. It’s where fire meets flavor,” Brandt said.
Chipotle tested its latest menu option at 94 restaurants in Denver and Indianapolis last summer. The strong feedback resulted in the brand continuing with its first global launch plan.
Customers will be able to customize burritos, bowls, salads, quesadillas and tacos with chicken al pastor to put a twist on their favorite entrees.
While the company did not announce how long the new item will be available, US customers can take advantage of a $0 delivery fee on all chicken al pastor orders placed through Chipotle’s app or website. March 16 to 26.
