Robert Vadra indicated that he will join active politics “at the right time”.

New Delhi:

As several prominent faces quit the Congress, businessman Robert Vadra, the son-in-law of Congress leader Sonia Gandhi, has said these leaders were seeking “power and position” and exuded confidence that the party would put up a good fight in the struggle against Congress. Lok Sabha polls.

“It is not right to say there is no confidence in Congress. I’ve met these people, they have experience. At this moment they feel like they need power, a ticket or a seat, but they don’t put any effort into it. If you feel like your identity is based on being a minister and if that’s not there…they don’t have to worry. If they don’t get the ticket, it doesn’t mean that if another party invites them, they will run away,” Mr Vadra told ANI in an interview.

“There is a legacy, Congress has offered them a lot, done a lot of things for them, their family. If they have been in Congress for generations, they need to have some patience even if they sense difficulties or if it takes a long time. back in power…power isn’t everything. We don’t get angry with them, we say goodbye to a good future. But people will see them and feel that they do not belong to any particular party and go where there is power or position. Only position matters to them,” he added.

Mr Vadra was responding to a question about some prominent faces like Vijender Singh, Ravneet Singh Bittu and Gaurav Vallabh quitting the party to join the BJP.

He said some leaders are leaving because they were not given tickets for the elections.
“They don’t think about what Congress has done for them. They believe that there should be a position and identity, so they leave if they don’t get a ticket or if another party makes an offer. We have witnessed these comings and goings. “As times change, you will see that many people will return. But the Congress Party, the INDIA bloc and the Gandhi family will raise their voice and fight for the people… I believe we will be able to get a good deal to put down.” to fight. We will work hard for the people and those who desire change will support us. We will talk about women’s safety, unemployment and development,” he said.

Mr. Vadra has made clear his interest in contesting the Lok Sabha polls and said that he may meet MPs from other political parties who offer him to join their parties and also ensure that they support his victory in the will ensure elections.

Mr Vadra also said that the people of Amethi expect him to represent their constituency if he thinks of becoming a Member of Parliament.

Mr Vadra said he wants Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi to become an MP first and he can follow her lead. “I always want Priyanka (Gandhi) to become an MP first and reach Parliament and then I think I can do that. I feel that I should become (MP) with my hard work, with the blessings of Sonia Gandhi and the Congress Party,” he said.

“I will also say that because I have been meeting people for so long and there are MPs from other parties, when I meet them, they also speak to me with love and say: come (to parliament) from our party and why are It taking so long and we will make sure you win by a huge margin,” he added.

While expressing his ambitions to become an MP, Mr Vadra also spoke about the leaders he meets, underestimating “the problems” he faces “every day”.

Robert Vadra indicated that he will join active politics “at the right time”.

“It is not that there are invitations from different places in the country, it is also from different parties that you come from our side and we will support you because I have friendship with several people outside party lines, they see my hard work. they understand, and they understand the problems that I face every day. They believe that if you are in Parliament, you can give the answers you give on a big platform, and that the work you do can be done on a big platform. on a big scale when you are in parliament. There are several invitations, there is pressure and my thought is to work harder and stay among the people and I will definitely participate at the right time,” said he.

Mr Vadra addressed Union Minister Smriti Irani, who represents Amethi, saying she does not visit the constituency often and people feel they have made a mistake by electing her.

Smriti Irani defeated Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls from Amethi, a stronghold of the Nehru-Gandhi family, in one of the biggest poll upsets. Mr Vadra, who has also expressed his electoral ambitions earlier, said the Gandhi family has worked hard in Amethi and surrounding areas.

“They want a member of the Gandhi family to return, they will make him that person’s victory by a huge margin. They also expect that if I take my first step into politics and think of becoming an MP, I will be Amethi should represent.” he said. Vadra said the decision on Amethi and Rae Bareli will be taken by the Congress leadership. “I am not saying that I will contest against Amethi or Priyanka will contest against Rae Bareli. The decision will be taken by the Congress party,” he said. .

Mr. Vadra said that in the 1999 Lok Sabha polls, he worked with Priyanka Gandhi for the Congress campaign in Amethi.

“At that time, politics was very different, there was an attempt to sow fear among the people. We visited sensitive areas at night, put up posters, distributed bags, worked hard day and night with our workers and gave them the confidence that we were there and they must continue to work in their areas and stands. They know how hard we worked and there was brotherhood and love, which is still there,” he said.

“The people I have worked with… outside my office, at home… they send messages on social media, they cut cake on my birthday, arrange langar or other services for people because they know I like this. People in the countryside make sure I stay among the people, work hard as much as possible for the disabled and blind children and spend all the money on charity. I visit on religious tour and they celebrate my birthday and celebrate festivals in my name and distribute among the people there,” he added.

Mr. Vadra was asked if he could be an Amethi candidate. The Congress has not yet named candidates for the Amethi and Rae Bareli seats in Uttar Pradesh, where it is contesting the Lok Sabha polls in alliance with the Samajwadi Party.

Rahul Gandhi won the last Lok Sabha polls from Wayanad in Kerala and is contesting the elections again.

The Congress Election Committee in Uttar Pradesh had last month “unanimously recommended” that members of the Gandhi family should contest from the Amethi and Raebareli Lok Sabha constituencies.
Former Congress president Sonia Gandhi has been representing Rae Bareli since 2004. She has now been elected to Rajya Sabha.

The Lok Sabha elections will be held in seven phases from April 19 to June 1.
