A child is one of two people injured, while another remains missing after a unit was engulfed in flames for almost an hour.

Firefighters rushed to the home on Bayside Court in Thorneside, in East Brisbane, about 7.15am on Sunday when they received reports of a house on fire.

They managed to extinguish the fire around 8 a.m., but not before three units were damaged and the roof of one of them collapsed.

A Queensland Ambulance spokesperson said a primary school-aged child suffered life-threatening injuries during the fire.

Paramedics are treating another person at the scene for smoke inhalation and he is in stable condition.

The spokesperson said there were reports of a person who should have been in the house and is still missing.

Searches at the property have been delayed until it can be stabilized due to the extensive damage caused by the fire.

Local state Rep. Don Brown said he is at the scene of the “horrible house fire” and expressed his condolences to the “family and community.”
