A socialist Chicago councilwoman once called the United States a “garbage society” as she claimed that policing in the country is based on racism.

Councilwoman Rossana Rodríguez is known for expressing her controversial views on social media, including her support for defunding the police and teaching critical race theory in public schools.

In a now-deleted post covered by FoxNews, Rodriguez said: ‘Our BIPOC youth are on the streets because they are not going to settle for this trash society that we have.

“They know it’s better for us to invest in things that protect us…not the police.”

Rodríguez often speaks out against the police on his social media, stating that they are racist and that violence is primarily the result of white supremacy.

‘When we say #DefundThePolice we mean developing alternatives to racist punishment and brutality. “This work has been around for a while and is a great tool for rethinking our ideas about what public safety should be,” Rodríguez wrote in 2020.

In another post he wrote: “White supremacy, systemic racism and exclusion are at the root of the problem of violence. “If we want this to end, we have to commit to dismantling white supremacist structures and fighting for equity.”

Rodriguez was elected to Chicago's 33rd District in May 2019 and re-elected last year to another four-year term.

When asked if white people can be victims of racism, Rodriguez responded: “Race is not a factor that can affect the success of white people.”

He added: “That’s why we need critical race theory.”

The politician, born in Puerto Rico, has found herself in trouble several times for her controversial publications on social networks.

Last November he sparked outrage after writing “From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free” in X.

The pro-Palestine slogan refers to the land between the Jordan River and the Mediterranean Sea and is interpreted by many as a call for the end of the State of Israel.

Rodríguez herself was accused of racism in July 2023, after she posted a poll on X asking her followers what was the “best way to honor Italian-American heritage.”

The options it offered included espresso machines and Italian ice, which sparked a backlash from Italian-American groups.
