Ben Johnson has signed a deal to become the next head coach of the Chicago Bears

The Chicago Bears have hired Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson as the team’s new head coach.

After weeks of speculation, the 5-12 NFL battlers have made a decision and Johnson will become head coach for the first time in his career, according to ESPN.

The in-demand OC has been in Detroit since 2019, rising from offensive quality control coach to OC in 2022.

NFL Network reports that Johnson will fly to Detroit in the coming days to sign his contract, and he is already working on his coaching staff.

Adam Schefter claims former Saints head coach Dennis Allen is the leading candidate to become DC in Chicago.

Johnson is only the second man to step off the coaching carousel at the end of 2024, following the Patriots’ decision to hire Mike Vrabel as head coach.

The Jets, Saints, Cowboys, Raiders and Jaguars are all without a 2025 signing yet, but the decision-making process is expected to continue at a rapid pace in the coming days.

The Bears’ new appointment will be another major blow to the Lions, who lost to the Commanders in the divisional round of the playoffs on Saturday.

In addition to Johnson, Detroit is about to lose defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn, who has multiple head coaching interviews scheduled in the coming days.
