Cher has hinted that she underwent an abortion just days after her wedding to her second husband, Gregg Allman of the Allman Brothers.
The 78-year-old pop star pulled back the curtain on her love life in the just-released first volume of her two-part autobiography, Cher: The Memoir.
Gregg and Cher were husband and wife from 1975 to 1979, in a relationship that was repeatedly affected by her heroin addiction.
She impulsively married him after becoming pregnant, exchanging vows with him in a Las Vegas ceremony “arranged within days” of finding out she was pregnant.
However, the morning after the wedding, Cher discovered white powder among Gregg’s personal belongings, even though she had previously helped him get sober.
Her husband’s new drug use, combined with her own doubts about how her pregnancy would affect her career, led her to conclude that “she had to make a decision and she knew what it was,” she wrote without using the word “abortion.” total.

Just one day after their wedding, Cher and Gregg had to be in different cities for work, leaving her with a “depressing” feeling of foreboding about their relationship. “I’m not sure I saw a future with him at the time,” she wrote.
That morning, she found “a plastic bag full of white powder” in the Dopp kit he had left, which intensified her qualms.
“I think when something like that happens, it tests the strength of a relationship, and ours wasn’t strong,” observed Cher, whose father was also a heroin addict.
She then visited her doctor, who had “befriended” her after treating her through two miscarriages and the birth of her first child, Chaz Bono, whom Cher had welcomed with her first husband, Sonny Bono.
‘While examining me, he discovered that I had some ovarian cysts and said, “I can go ahead and take care of them.” I had known him for so long that if they had been dangerous he would have said, “You have cysts. I have to remove them.” “I knew pretty well what he meant when he offered me that option,” Cher recalled.
“I was thinking about how I had to be on bed rest when I was pregnant with Chas and that I couldn’t drive for four months except for follow-up appointments. I needed to be at work on Monday. I needed to sing and dance,” she continued.
‘I had a son, a mother and a sister to take care of. “I knew I had to make a decision and I knew what it was,” Cher explained.
“It made it harder not having Gregory to talk to about this, but I made my decision and was very grateful for my doctor’s compassion for giving me one.”

However, their relationship frayed under the pressure of Gregg’s addiction, despite his multiple attempts to quit heroin.
‘I’m so tired of doing this, Gregory. “I’m so tired of going to rehab with you,” Cher told him at one point. “But I’m moving on,” he replied.

She reflected: ‘Looking back, I can see that I was a bit crazy about Gregory. I kept doing the same thing and expecting different results, and that’s the madness.’

Gregg, who ultimately married a total of seven times, died in 2017 at the age of 69 after a battle with liver cancer. Cher attended his funeral.
