Chennedy Carter insists she has “no regrets” about her brutal body check on Caitlin Clark as the Chicago Sky player addressed the incident directly for the first time.
Carter also claimed that his push toward Clark, which has drawn widespread criticism and attention in recent days, came after she was hit in the head moments before.
The Chicago player refused to answer questions about the incident after Saturday’s loss to the Indiana Fever.
But after training on Monday, he said: “I don’t regret anything.” “I’m going to compete and play 100 percent hard, no matter who it is or who we play against.”
Carter said she acted in the “heat of the moment” and would never back down when challenged physically on the court.
“I think I got hit in the head on the previous play and it was one of those things that happened in the heat of the moment. I don’t know Caitlin. I don’t know her from anyone, but at the end of the day this is basketball, it’s competitive,” said.
‘This is basketball, if you play against someone like me, I classify myself as a guy. So if you’re going to throw a punch, I’m going to compete with you.’
Carter also criticized the fallout from the incident, adding: “It’s become a big national story: We’ve had things thrown into the ring like racism and different things thrown at players that shouldn’t have even been mentioned.”
“This is the game I love, this is the game I’m passionate about and at the end of the day, I’m grateful to be able to show it to everyone. And if you’re going to watch the game, watch the whole thing before you comment.
‘Just watch the whole game and get to know the players… I’ve seen a lot of fans who just don’t understand who I am as a player. You also have to understand me as a person and not watch a single film and form an opinion about me.’
