According to a local reporter, there have been power outages in the area and stay-at-home orders have been issued for those in the vicinity.

The La Porte Office of Emergency Management said the fire started shortly before 10 a.m. and no injuries had been reported as of this writing.

Due to the fire, the nearby Spencer Highway has been closed in both directions and neighboring roads have been blocked to traffic.

Evacuations were also ordered in the Brookglen neighborhood area, and San Jacinto College issued a shelter-in-place order.

In a social media post, the university said: ‘SJC Central remains sheltered in place. There are no fires on campus.

‘Emergency crews are on scene. A shelter will be maintained at the San Jacinto College main campus until the all-clear is given.’

This is breaking news.
