Wednesday’s Glenfarclas Cross Country Chase at the Cheltenham Festival may have to be postponed to Friday after more rain than expected overnight left part of the course waterlogged.

The track was expecting between 2-4mm of rain overnight but has already received 6mm with another 4-6mm still forecast.

The main track where today’s races will be run has changed its description from Soft to Soft (heavy in places).

The Cross Country track is only used a few times a year and is in the center of the course.

An inspection for the Cross Country track has been scheduled for Wednesday at 8 a.m.

The Glenfarclas Cross Country Chase (pictured in action last year) could be moved from Wednesday to Friday due to heavy rain which left part of the course flooded.

A wide shot on Tuesday from Cheltenham showed gray skies and rainy weather conditions.

Cheltenham is in talks with the BHA about the possibility of moving the Cross Country Chase to Gold Cup day on Friday with a drier forecast for the end of the week.

There is no indication that racing at Cheltenham’s main track is under threat, but conditions will be very difficult.
