Mason Mount praises boss Thomas Tuchel’s ‘big impact’ in restoring Chelsea to ‘perform at a high level’ as the midfielder in form admits it ‘doesn’t get better than that’ after booking a spot in the half Champions League finals
Mason Mount insisted it ‘doesn’t get any better than that’ after Chelsea drove past Porto to reach the Champions League semi-finals.
When the domestic form collapsed at the end of Frank Lampard’s tenure, little was expected of Chelsea against LaLiga leaders Atletico Madrid.
Hitting them over two legs, and now Porto, has opened up the possibility of winning everything and the Chelsea midfielder believes that Thomas Tuchel, Lampard’s successor in January, had a ‘big impact’ in saving what a sinking ship.

Mount said Tuchel has had a ‘big impact’ in reaching the Champions League semi-finals
[Tuchel] has had a big impact, ”he said BT Sport when asked about the qualities of his manager.
“ It’s hard to get to the middle of the season, but all the players knew what he wanted from day one and we implemented it.
‘We worked hard on training and we show that on game day. We have been solid as a team and performed at a high level – hopefully that will continue as huge games are coming and we have to keep playing at a high level. ‘
Mehdi Taremi got the only goal in Sevilla in Tuesday night’s return match, but it was only consolation for Porto.

Even the second leg loss, just like Paris Saint-Germain did in the other quarter-finals before they too progressed, couldn’t bear the progress for Mount.
‘It doesn’t get any better than that, today was the most important thing to get through,’ he added.
‘We could have done better in the day. The performance was in the back of our minds. Reaching the semifinal was paramount and we did.
‘We had a few [chances]I had a few, but the most important thing was to defend, to stay strong. The three of us in front – me, Kai (Havertz) and Christian (Pulisic), we worked our socks off, kept going.
“We are buzzing, we are in a good position, we know we are playing well.”

Attention now turns to the FA Cup semi-final on Saturday night against Manchester City by Pep Guardiola, who will play the Champions League quarter-final against Borussia Dortmund on Wednesday.
Mount and his team-mates know they can close the 2020-21 season with two trophies and a top four spot, something that seemed highly unlikely when club legend Lampard was relentlessly dismissed three months ago.
Tuchel’s side now have to wait to see who stands between them and a spot in the final with Real Madrid heading to Anfield 3-1 ahead of Liverpool from the first leg.
‘We take everyone with us [in the next round], ” Concluded Mount. “We are ready for battle, ready for battle.”
