Chelsea are interested in Brentford striker Ivan Toney, although the finances of the deal will determine whether the Blues go ahead with the transfer.

Toney, who is in the final 12 months of his contract, can leave this summer and has an offer from Saudi Pro League side Al Ahli.

But the England star has now come onto the radar of Chelsea as they look to land a new striker before Friday’s transfer deadline.

However, the cost of the deal will be the determining factor in whether Chelsea step up their interest this week.

Toney is set to earn up to £400,000-a-week in Saudi Arabia, a salary Chelsea will not be able to come close to due to their strict wage structure.

The addition of Toney would further increase the size of Chelsea's squad, having already been criticised for having too many players.

Toney has been left out of Thomas Frank's squad for Brentford's opening Premier League game of the season against Crystal Palace.

Frank said Toney's omission from the squad was due to the uncertainty surrounding his future at the club.

Likewise, Brentford’s asking price would also have to be suitable for Chelsea at Stamford Bridge to accelerate their initial interest.

But if Chelsea believe the finances of the deal can fit into their structure, then they will consider a move.

Toney is not the only striker Chelsea are interested in, with Napoli’s Victor Osimhen another player the club have a strong interest in.

Osimhen has long been recognised as Chelsea’s preferred target for the centre-forward role, but the cost of such a deal has so far proved prohibitive.

It now remains to be seen whether the terms of a deal for the Nigerian striker change in the coming hours as news of interest in Toney emerges.
