Chelsea ‘inquire about Domenico Berardi after Juventus rejects Federico Chiesa’s approach’

Chelsea ‘ask for Sassuolo striker Domenico Berardi after Juventus turned down Federico Chiesa approach… while Borussia Dortmund and West Ham also follow Italy’s Euro 2020 winner’

  • Domenico Berardi impressed for Italy as his side went all out at Euro 2020
  • The 26-year-old has only represented Sassuolo since his debut at club level
  • But according to reports in Italy, Chelsea and Borussia Dortmund have made inquiries
  • Chelsea allegedly rejected £85million bid for Federico Chiesa last week week

According to reports in Italy, Chelsea have inquired about signing Sassuolo and Italian forward Domenico Berardi.

The 26-year-old impressed for his country at Euro 2020, claiming two group stage assists en route to the Azzurri’s victory after beating England in the final on penalties.

The forward has played his entire club career with Sassuolo since his first-team debut in 2012, after he famously turned down a move to Juventus despite being co-owned by the Serie A giants between 2013 and 2015.

But Sportitalia claim that the Blues have inquired about Berardi’s availability, while Borussia Dortmund and West Ham are also following the Italian star.

Last week reports claimed the Stamford Bridge outfit had failed with an £85million bid to sign Federico Chiesa, while Juventus were unwilling to open talks about the winger they signed last summer.

But latest reports from Italy now claim the Champions League winners have shifted their focus to Chiesa’s international team-mate Berardi, who has a two-year contract with Sassuolo.

Berardi scored 17 goals last season and provided a further eight assists in 30 Serie A appearances for Sassuolo.

Serie A sides AC Milan, Lazio and Fiorentina have also expressed interest in Berardi, but reports suggest he is more likely to leave his home country if he leaves this summer.

Chelsea’s hunt for a new wide striker comes amid reports that Callum Hudson-Odoi will remain at Stamford Bridge despite renewed interest from Bayern Munich.

The England international’s attitude of wanting to stay and fight for his place is a major blow to Bayern, who have long been admirers and had hoped to close a deal on a trade for Kingsley Coman.
